A few years later they had us back where we competed and came in second on Food Network CAKE WARS in 2016. Not only was it an honor to be chosen, but it was a thrill to bring home a win!!!!!! (winning episode Season 6 "angry birds"). Then 4 months later Food Network called us back for a second appearance on the hit show Cupcake Wars where we were finalists. In March of 2011 we launched "Georgie" our Cupcake Truck! Since then, we were asked to be on Food Network Cupcake Wars. This is when we decided that a cupcake truck was in order. "What if we did this" or "what if we add that" became some very common phrases. With the two of us in the kitchen, we started experimenting with cupcakes and different flavor combinations. Not long after he found a knack for carving and sculpting cake! Jason is quite the artist! So baking was is in his blood. Jason began helping me with some of the baking and building cake stands and bases for my cakes. Jason often enjoyed making breads, pastries and his favorite- cookies! His grandfather Art was a baker for 40+ years. Word got out and orders started coming in.Īs requests for cakes grew, so did my husbands interest.
I played around with different techniques and learned in our home kitchen. It became another form of media for me! Then I started to make the cakes for friends and family. My mom use to make cakes for our family and friends and I started helping her.I was hooked. Painting, sculpting, and creating with mixed media has always inspired me. I can understand TV stress and pressure but really?! Also does anyone believe it was made in the time allotted, painted and then dried? A little TV magic maybe… but what I couldn’t get over was all the crying and yelling. Make 1000 cupcakes and a display… Both displays where original, the tier was classy… the golf course was cheap… the fact that it won was amazing. Ok… round one, underwhelmed… round two, even more unimpressed and then round three… Hoping for all hope that it’s going to get better I keep watching… did anyone else notice the assistant on the winning team was actress Maureen Flannigan?… I honestly for the next five minutes was googling her, is she in the cupcake business now? Why is she there? Why is she confused? Is she a stand in? WOW my choices are either a seafood item or a flavor combination that everyone does. I mean make a savory cupcake … ok… your choices are bacon, maple etc etc etc. Upon the first couple of minutes it was clear that the format of the show was the tried and true “Iron Chef” … but the table of ingredients the contestants had felt less exciting.
I have only watched one episode but after that one I can only assume that it’s not getting any better. Ok not to beat a dead cupcake so to speak but today I am going to talk about Cupcake Wars on the Food Network. Happy Monday and First Day of Summer… it’s such a pretty GRAY chilly day out.
